If it weren't for the TV set...

It is tough to motivate oneself to diligently exercise.

You'll find a thousand and one excuses not to carry yourself out of the couch and onto a treadmill. It is easy to find the excuses; some of which may sound valid, but they are excuses nonetheless, because in the end you did not accomplish anything.

Mark Twain once said, "I am pushing sixty. That's enough exercise for me."

Huh!

Joey Adams, on the other hand, said, "If it weren't for the fact that the TV set and the refrigerator are so far apart, some of us would not get any exercise at all."

For me, I am thankful for newly found cheap LCD TV set. I had given up jogging for nearly two years now, and it is hard to get re-started.  Before you start abusing me, hang on a second. I knew the benefit even better than many of us. I had once lost at least 20 kg over a 3 month period (in the early 2000), simply because of my jogging on  treadmill.

And nothing else.

The foods in Houston were too rich for my body. The fact I was on business trip for nearly two years there (and hence on expense account) did not help me at all.

Coming back, I jogged hard after someone remarked, "Rahman, sihatnya sekarang." when I went avisiting to an old office of mine. By then, I had bloated, I realized that. That remark was enough a motivation for me.

HOwever as time passed by, I found jogging time wasting. At least 30 minutes went by and I lost it forever.

Never mind the fact that I had lost fat/weight along the way too.

The problem with jogging too is that I am conscious of the time. Every minute I would look at the time, and I thought that everytime I went jogging time passed by so slowly like we were on Jupiter. For every minute I would look at the watch, I thought I had been jogging for a good 10 mins.

So I had to multitask. I can't write memo or email while jogging. I can't conduct business while running. I should not make phone calls while doing brisk walking; they may thought that I am sexually harassing them!

Hahaha...

So I found this solution. And thanks to cheap LCD TV available nowadays, I bought one for my gym room. It is only a RM390 for a Toshiba 19" screen.
JOgging while watching something on the telly. I have
been following TV AlHijrah's Indonesian series
at 6.30 pm and thought the time traveling drama with
Deddy Mizwar is fun to watch while jogging.

I have now been jogging (since Wednesday) for at least 4.6 km a day in two sessions - one early in the morning (before dawn) and another just before dusk. I can watch the news and have my laughter everynight while I am jogging.

And I am not feeling bored at all.

Alhamdulillah. This is my tribute for my heart.

Target 10 kg or more to lose before the fasting month starts in July!

I tend to run faster as soon as a pretty face appears on
the screen. Hahaha, cos my heart beats faster too!
